A Look back Spring 2014
June 23, 2014What flower trends do you see on the horizon for 2015?
August 13, 2014Blue is an amazing color which evokes calm feelings and is often associated with cleanliness, strength and dependability. It is also the number 1 favorite color of all people.
Interestingly, very few flowers naturally grow in brilliant blues namely; Iris, Hydrangea, Anemone, and Delphinium.
Delphinium, often referred to as “Delph”, grow in a wide range of color from a rich elegant blue to a soft celestial white blue. The July birth flower, Delphinium is readily available for weddings, events and everyday occasions throughout the summer months.
Q: What are the best ways to display or use Delphinium?
A: Blue delphinium is a perfect stand alone bloom when used enmass for party buffet tables, bars and tablescapes. When looking for a perfect flag blue for your next July 4th party, look no further than this stately blossom.
Tip: Be sure to use at least ten stems of Delphinium per vessel with a 4-5” opening. (less or more respectively). Because this varietal is naturally tall with lateral flowers throughout the bloom stalk it needs little arraigning and can simply be placed in a vase with just a fresh cut and cool water. The total height of the finished design should be two to two-and-a-half times the height of the vessel you are working in.
More traditionally for wedding work, the individual flowers can be removed from the stem and be used as the perfect accent flower. [Using floral wire the bloom can be pierced near the base of the floret and doubled over, then tightly wound with floral tape creating a clean stem to be inserted between the other flowers in a bouquet.] The flower if kept temperate should last without showing signs of wilting for 6-8 hours. Delphinium can be the perfect hint of powder blue or pop of bold color in a bridal or attendant bouquet.
The beautiful blue tones and versatile uses of this delicate bell shaped flower make Delphinium an all time favorite and standard in the hot summer months.
Happy Planning!
